REPAIR works to the east of Linlithgow Cross will be completed next summer it can be revealed.
On May 18, the Journal and Gazette reported that necessary road repairs to street setts on Linlithgow High Street had been disastrous after West Lothian Council officers apologised for mistakes and delays.
Repairs to the east of the Cross were not completed but, after discussions with Linlithgow Business Association, the Linlithgow Traders Association and local councillors, officers have decided to start the work on July 8, 2013.
A council spokesman said: “Officers were advised that the most suitable date to start the main works would be the Monday after the first weekend of the Linlithgow jousting event, which we understand is Monday, July 8, 2013.
“The business representatives were of the view that the town is quieter than normal during this period as a number of local people tend to be away on holiday.
‘‘We have agreed to the business community’s request and agreed to work towards that date.”
He added the road would remain safe until the repair works are carried out next summer and any minor repairs before then would create little or no disruption to the High Street.
The work will take an estimated two weeks to complete, and done in phases so the jousting event at Linlithgow Peel is not affected.
Options for external and specialist contractors are all being considered with a decision being made early in the new year.
The council spokesman added: “Our main aim is to carry out the necessary repairs with minimum disruption to the local business community and residents.”
