Linlithgow’s ‘grand old man’ of cricket steps down

ONE of Scotland’s leading cricket groundsmen has announced his retirement at the age of 79.

George Strachan has worked for 32 years at West Lothian’s Boghall ground in Linlithgow.

A retired chartered surveyor - he retired in 1990 - he was twice named Groundsman of the Year by the Scottish Cricket Union which has staged several international matches at the venue. The Scottish Cup was also hosted by West Lothian in 2005.
