Linlithgow Union Canal Society members are a hardy bunch who, no matter the weather, endeavour to provide a public service.
But, they can’t do it without help and that’s where you come in.
The Society. which celebrated its 40th birthday earlier this year is currently looking for volunteers who could spare a few hours each week to lend a hand.
The organisation is thriving and is an admired model of success for what it has achieved over the years in promoting, maintaining and delivering a quality travel adventure for local residents and visitors alike.
Canal Society chairman Duncan McIntyre said: “Our success does give us a problem. Our activities are run by a relatively small number of volunteers who are sometimes a little overstretched to deliver the service we offer to the public.
“If you feel you can offer some time, and it doesn’t have to be much, perhaps just a few days per year, we’d love to hear from you.”
Full training will be provided for all volunteer roles, which, at present, include boat drivers and crew, tearoom staff, museum attendants, self-drive boat despatchers, ‘blackhanders’’, or even as an educational assistant for school groups.
“There’s a role for everyone no matter what it is you do, and we’re a friendly bunch of people,’’ added Duncan.
If you’re interested give Duncan a call on 01506 510118 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Alternatively pop along to the canal centre on a Wednesday or Saturday morning.
