Majority of local voters want to Remain

The majority of voters in West Lothian want to remain in the European Union.

Along with the electorate in the City of Edinburgh and Falkirk Council areas in yesterday’s Referendum they voted to stay in the EU.

In West Lothian 51,560 people voted to Remain while 36,948 backed the Leave camp.

There was a 67.6 per cent turnout.

City of Edinburgh saw an even higher turnout - 73 per cent - and 187,796 voted to Remain and 64,498 to Leave.

In Falkirk Remain received 44,987 votes with Leave getting 34,271 from a 67.6 per cent turnout.
