MEP visits Linlithgow

SNP MEP and candidate in May’s European election, Alyn Smith, joined local councillors to take the message of a more prosperous independent Scotland inside the EU to the voters of West Lothian.

Alyn took to the streets of Linlithgow with Cllr Martyn Day and spoke to local community volunteers in Kirknewton with Cllr Carl John.

Commenting on his visit, the two-term MEP Smith said:

“It was great to get out of the office and join the fantastic SNP team here in West Lothian.

“As MEP for Scotland it is my job to represent the views and interests of all Scots inside the European Parliament and in order to do that, we, the politicians need to listen to the concerns of local people and businesses supporting the local economy.

“The EU is Scotland’s largest trading partner and is hugely important to Scottish business. With the UK on a collision course with the EU, Scotland needs to be ready to protect our interests, by saying Yes to Europe and Yes to independence.”

Councillor Martyn Day said:

“I was delighted to welcome Alyn Smith back into West Lothian on Wednesday when we met with local community volunteers, as well as participating in some traditional door to door campaigning.

“There is clearly a political re-awakening happening in Scotland and the interest and enthusiasm displayed by the West Lothian public was very encouraging.”
