THE SNP won all but one seat in the Edinburgh area with businesswoman Michelle Thomson taking the Edinburgh West constituency from the Lib Dems by a majority of over 3000.
Since being elected Michelle has featured on BBC’s Breakfast TV programme on Saturday with Bill Turnbull and has been interviewed by Sky News. On Saturday, she and her fellow SNP MPs converged on South Queensferry for a press call before heading home to pack her bags in readiness for the trip to Westminster on Monday.
The new MP said she looks forward to shaping real change in her constituency.
She said: ‘‘Now I have the opportunity to bring about improvements here in West Edinburgh, I will be seeking out every possible option to do so.
‘‘I firmly believe that having won the trust of the voters in Edinburgh West, it is to them that I must be responsible.
‘‘I will be working to ensure that all people in this constituency, whether or not they voted for me, have ready access to help and support from my office.”
The Lib Dems had held the Edinburgh West seat since 1997 and the defeated Mike Crockart said: “I have been incredibly proud to have served the constituents of Edinburgh West over the past five years.
‘‘It has been an immense privilege and an honour and I have tried to be a strong and principled representative for my constituency.”
