Morag takes her last class after 40 years

Morag (65), who lives in Bo’ness, taught at Queensferry Primary School since 1976 and will now swap classes of 30 kids for just one as she will take up tutoring her two-year-old grandson Dylan in her retirement.

The popular teacher was herself schooled at both Linlithgow Primary and Academy before starting her teaching career at Grange Primary in Bo’ness in 1971 and five years later she found the job in the Ferry that she loved until the last day of term yesterday (Thursday) when the pupils and staff paid a tribute to her during a special leaving assembly for the P7s who are going on to high school.

Head teacher Karen MacGregor said: “Mrs King has been a wonderful teacher. She is creative, inspiring and encouraging and she has taught many of our families.

“She is so well loved and respected by pupils, parents and staff and we will miss her very much.”

Morag said: “It has been quite special teaching the children of South Queensferry and I’ve taught three generations of the same family during my time which is just amazing.

“I think the most rewarding thing about teaching for me is seeing their little faces light up when they have understood something and they become so proud of their own learning.

“This helps build their confidence and development and it is wonderful to see.

“The things I will miss most are working with my colleagues, there is great camaraderie, and I will miss having a busy day.

“I would like to thank all the people of Queensferry. I have loved being part of this community.”
