The new and improved Hawthorn Park has not even been open a week and is already proving a success in the town.
Yesterday pupils from Tom Thumb Nursery took part in a sports day on the new safe green space created by the Greenferry Trust.
The fantastically fun event was enjoyed by the pupils who competed in a variety of races with mums and dads even joining in the egg and spoon race and the skipping race.
Before the Greenferry Trust got their hands on Hawthorn Bank and transformed it, the youngsters would spend their play time on the pavement outside the nursery.
However that is now a thing of the past for the children who will now be able to enjoy the area along with the rest of the community.
Chairperson of the trust Juliette Lee said: “The past 18 months has seen this eyesore transformed into a beautiful green area for all the community to enjoy.”
The Ferry Fair Queen officially opened Hawthorn Bank on June 18 and everyone was amazed with the £7000 transformation.
Phase one of the project saw the 300sqm area levelled off and turfed and the trust can now focus on phase two which will see the area landscaped.
Juliette said: “We aim to make Hawthorn Bank even more beautiful.”
