New store brings jobs boost

Bosses at the family-owned Watt Brothers store have launched their recruitment drive for around 50 new staff in Falkirk

The company is planning a new 15,000 square foot shop in the town’s Howgate Centre – its tenth in Scotland, and is expecting to be open for business in May.

As part of the plans, the company which this year has just marked its centenary in business, has called for applicants for a variety of positions from store manager to part-time weekend store assistants.

Last year the independently owned department store revealed plans to open six new stores as well as enlarging three of their current stores.

A Watt Brothers spokesman said: “The opportunity for us to open this new store is very exciting. We see Falkirk as a busy an established retail environment and one that is ideal for Watt Brothers.

“We’re a long-established business and many of our existing team members have worked in our other nine stores for a long number of years.”

The firm is taking over premises formerly used by Argos and HMV.
