More than 9,600 people gathered at Linlithgow Palace last weekend to watch the thrills and spills of Historic Scotland’s ‘Spectacular Jousting’ event.
The thunder of hooves and the crack of lances splintering greeted audiences as knights battled it out in the arena.
Visitors were able to learn about the fashions of the day from the ladies of the court, meet the palace jester and sign up to join the “kids’ army”.
Lorna Ewan, from Historic Scotland, said: “We were delighted to welcome the crowds back to Linlithgow Palace for another successful Spectacular Jousting weekend, with thousands of visitors braving some stormy weather to flock to The Peel. As always there was lots going on for families to see and do, from cheering on the jousters to trying out traditional games and meeting the palace falconer. It was great to see so many smiling faces leaving the palace at the end of the day – some of whom enjoyed their visit on Saturday so much they came back again on Sunday.”
