Tough times in the biz they call show. Just ask Nora Jones. The super-rich, former teen star has said how relieved she is not to be breaking into a 'messed up' industry, advising upcoming acts to be 'super smart' with regards to contracts.

Easier said than done, of course. As Jones studied piano at university, she’s lucky she’ll never need to find a proper job.

Similarly, it would take a misplaced PIN number or a string of massive shopping binges for Adele to need a backup plan.

The Cockney songstress – very sensibly, as it turns out – packed in her studies for a record deal. But now she plans to give up gigging for ten years and instead catch up on the student life she missed out on – perhaps forming a band, maybe persuading the ents guy at the union to give her a gig, though not, you’d imagine, taking on three bar jobs to cover her student loan.

But in the real world, making music just won’t pay the rent – surely the only reason that Tom Jones is returning to The Voice, despite being unceremoniously kicked off a couple of series ago.

Joining Jones is Jennifer Hudson – seventh on the US version of Pop Idol – and Gwen Stefani’s ex, Gavin Rossdale. No-one in the UK’s too sure who he is, so you can bet his agent’s better than his divorce lawyer...
