THIS week’s Peep at the Past harks back to the first ever Linlithgow Gala Day in 1930.
Submitted by Margaret Martin (nee McMeechan) of Justinhaugh Drive, Linlithgow, the photograph depicts Isobel Crawford about to be crowned at the Palace.
Margaret was a pupil at the town’s Public School and she was one of the two trainbearers that day. She is pictured left, looking down while her fellow trainbearer was Kate Anderson.
As can be seen in the background, the spectators were adressed in all their finery with ladies wearing hats to mark the grand occasion.
The Journal and Gazette welcomes old photographs such as this one for possible reproduction on this page.
They can be handed into the office at 114 High Street, Linlithgow, or emailed to email@example.com (jpeg format please).
