In light of the national emergency this country is facing, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, allocated £1m to help local frontline charities at this difficult time. The full £1m of donations have now been awarded across the UK, with 41 local charities benefitting across Scotland.

To help ensure this support reached all corners of the UK, NFU Mutual reached out to its Appointed Representative network of local Agents. NFU Mutual’s 300 independent Agency offices, nine NFU Mutual Branches and nine regional sales teams were each given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of this fund.

This donation will support CHAS in doing something completely new for their families in response to Covid-19 by creating the UK’s first Virtual Children’s Hospice. As many CHAS families were and may still be shielding and cannot visit the hospice, CHAS can take the hospice to them.

This innovation offers families medical advice by phone and video, bereavement support, money advice and practical advice around coronavirus. The virtual hospice also offers story-telling, letter writing for children and parents, activity packs, virtual Clown Doctor visits, friendship calls from volunteers with an understanding ear and much more.

Through the CHAS virtual hospice, children have been able to see and hear from the familiar faces they have got to know so well from visits to Robin and Rachel House. Throughout Covid-19, they delivered 12 hours of singing, dancing and laughing for children isolating at home plus activity packs to keep little hands and minds busy.
