Vikki Thomson and partner Martin Roxburgh welcomed their ‘wee miracle’, son Bobby George Roxburgh into the world last month.

After a difficult eight years, they – and Vikki’s daughter Maizy – were delighted to have Bobby join the family when he was born 11 days early on December 12, 2022.

The baby, who is now just five weeks old, was born at 2.21pm at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, weighing 7lb 1oz.

His safe arrival was a huge relief for mum Vikki, 39, and dad Martin, 50.

Vikki said: “I had my daughter ten years ago with my previous partner.

"Martin and I had been trying to get pregnant for eight years. We have lost four babies. IVF wasn’t going to be a good option for us as our chances of it working were low.

"We didn’t think it was going to happen and had stopped trying, but then I found out I was pregnant with Bobby. He is a wee miracle.

"Because I’ve had the four miscarriages, my pregnancy was full of anxiety and worries. It was a really worrying time.

"My placenta was at the front so I couldn’t feel him kicking, so we were up at the hospital twice a week being checked.

“I didn’t want to get excited in case anything happened and I didn’t believe until he arrived that he was coming.”

Bobby’s due date was December 23, but he made his appearance a little earlier.

Vikki continued: “Bobby was measuring very small and there were a few complications when I was pregnant so I got taken in early for a C-section.

"They thought we would have been 4lb or 5lb at the most when he was born, but he was 7lb 1oz and was absolutely perfect.

"We are all enjoying having him around. Maizy is loving it. She’s a great help and she loves him to bits.

"She was one of the first visitors in to see him after he was born and she helped pick his name.

"She used to call my bump BOB – Baby on Board – when I was pregnant and when we found out we were having a boy it became Boy on Board.

"We didn’t want to call a wee baby Bob, but that’s how we came up with the name Bobby. It’s special because Maizy helped pick it.”

He may only have been born a matter of weeks ago, but after arriving earlier than anticipated he’s already had a number of first experiences including his first Christmas complete with a visit to his first panto on Christmas Eve and a visit to see Santa with his big sister.

And although he was born towards the end of 2022, as well as being his parents’ wee miracle, Bobby has another claim to fame.

Vikki, a careers advisor with Skills Development Scotland, explained: “When we went to get him registered he was the first baby boy to be registered in Falkirk in 2023.

“He doesn’t have the number one at the top of his birth certificate as there was a wee girl in before him, but he’s the first boy registered locally this year.

"He’s a content wee baby, although he is a bit fussy at times and he knows what he likes already!”

Vikki and Martin added their thanks to the staff at Forth Valley Royal for Bobby’s safe delivery as well as thanking their parents – Isobel and John Thomson, and Sandra Roxburgh – for being there for the family.
