Families in Linlithgow and East Falkirk urged to apply for Best Start Grant
Local families who are eligible are being urged to apply for this year’s Best Start Grant School Age Payment.
The payment, which is only available in Scotland, is open to parents or the main carer a child born between 1 March 2016 and 28 Feb 2017 and who is in receipt of tax credits or certain benefits.
It is part of five family payments delivered by Social Security Scotland that also include: Best Start Foods, Best Start Grant Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Best Start Grant Early Learning Payment and Scottish Child Payment.
Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Martyn Day (SNP) urged all eligible families in his constituency area to make sure they do not miss out.
He said: “The SNP Scottish Government is working to ensure that every child in Linlithgow and East Falkirk has the best start in life and these payments – which have been described as ‘game-changing’ – form part of that effort to build a fairer, more equal Scotland.
“The Best Start payments have been vital in ensuring children in Linlithgow and East Falkirk and across Scotland have the best start in life, with around £5,000 of support being provided by the time a child turns six.
“I would urge all families who are eligible to apply to do so as soon as possible. You can apply, even if your child is not starting Primary 1 this year.”
