Grangemouth’s public toilets are finally open again thanks to a group of volunteers who want to bring life back to the town.

Grangemouth Community Hub – previously known as the Loo Crew – were delighted to finally open the doors to the toilets in York Lane on Saturday.

Local councillor Alan Nimmo, who has supported the volunteers with the re-opening, officially did the honours on Saturday, with Councillor Robert Spears also attending.

The team hope that the toilets being open again will bring people back to the town centre and they are now planning events to support that ambition.

The group’s first event will be a Spring Fair on Saturday, April 6, in York Square – with lots of stalls and activities already planned.

As well as a free bouncy castle and goodie bags for kids, there will also be crafts, jewellery and sweet treats, as well as glitter face-painting and a dog show.

The local Sea Cadets will also attend and the charity Headway will be doing crafts. There will be no charge for any of the children’s activities on April 6 but stallholders will be charged.

Pamela Young said: “We want to make this a day to remember!”

The Hub’s pop-up shop in York Lane – which will help them buy things such as cleaning essentials and toilet rolls to keep the toilets open – will also re-open from April 1 – April 8.

On Saturday, Pamela thanked the community for all their support so far.

While Pamela and June Ramage started the campaign, volunteers Willie Stewart, Ricky Dunn and Kiera Young quickly joined the team.

They soon realised just how vital public toilets are to many people, especially those who are elderly or disabled.

Pamela said: “I just want to thank the town for the support they have given us and hopefully will continue to give.

“Thank you also to the people who have got us to this point and thanks to the fab people who have made us a fab wee team!”
