A youngster from Bo’ness who has raised thousands of pounds for charity has been shortlisted for another award.

Lauchlan Muir (12), who attends Bo’ness Public School, is a finalist in the Young Hero category of the Young Scot Awards 2017.

Lauchlan has been fundraising since he was five years old and has generated more than £10,000 for Children in Need, posing as a levitating statue in shopping centres across the country.

Last November, he won the first ever Sir Terry Wogan Fundraiser of the Year award in recognition of his inspirational work and was presented with his accolade on the Children In Need TV programme.

His nomination rounds off a fantastic year for the youngster, who is going to be the Champion in this year’s Bo’ness Fair celebrations.

Lauchlan’s Dad John (46) said: “We’re very proud of him with all the stuff he has done.

“We were shocked when we heard he was shortlisted. He works very hard at it and good to see him getting the recognition.”

Gillian Genoe, head teacher at Bo’ness Public School, said: “The school put in the nomination for him. We felt his efforts were worthy of wider recognition. We were delighted to find out that he was shortlisted for the award.

“He is an exceptional child which other children look up to and shows a maturity beyond his years.”

Now in its 12th year the Awards celebrate contributions and work across health, community, the arts and diversity. From hundreds of entries, three finalists will be chosen in each of the 12 categories.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on April 27, 2017.

Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot, said: “This year we received hundreds of outstanding, inspirational stories of young people like Lauchlan’s in West Lothian, going above and beyond to improve lives in their communities.

“Congratulations to all of the incredible finalists, we are so excited to give them the recognition they deserve and celebrate their incredible achievements!”
