The choir has been working hard over the last few weeks to put together its alternative Christmas offering for its Linlithgow audience and followers beyond the town.

Christmas is usually an exciting time for the choir, which often puts on an extra special show of wonderful seasonal music in one of the town’s churches.

The choir joins its large and enthusiastic audiences to herald the start of their festive holidays. Singing at the Cross for the Christmas tree switch-on ceremony and entertaining shoppers in Tesco and Sainsbury have all had to be put on hold this year.

However, the beauty of this alternative digital Christmas for 2020 is that everyone can enjoy it, anywhere and any time in the safety and comfort of their own homes.

Musical director Kirsty Ball explained how the pandemic has sharpened the choir’s IT skills, allowing them to produce this Christmas treat.

She said: “The choir has managed to meet regularly online since the March 2020 lockdown, and we’ve had great fun socialising, quizzing and most importantly, still singing.

“Zoom meetings have allowed us to meet as a collective to use different musical approaches. We have learned so much and overcome some complex technological challenges. Now we have become more accustomed to making our own multi-screen mash-up videos.

“It’s fair to say we will not be using any of the outtakes!”

Kirsty is once again delighted to be supporting local charities through the choir’s singing.

She said: “One of the main aims of the choir is to support local charities. We are delighted to have been able to continue with this.

“Our nominated charity organisations for 2020 are West Lothian Food Bank and the Linlithgow Link.

“If we can add to this seasonal message it will be to invite you to sign into Linlithgow Ladies Choir on our YouTube channel and find our Christmas offerings.

“We send you all our best wishes and hopes for a brighter, happier and healthy 2021.”
