TRAFFIC from Queensferry heading into Edinburgh had to be diverted for almost nine hours on Tuesday following a fatal road accident.
A 36 year old woman pedestrian was killed after a collision with a car on the southbound A90 near Cramond Brig pub at around 7.40pm.
The driver reported the incident to police after stopping at the scene and is helping police with their investigation.
Lothian and Borders Police appealled for witnesses. They are hoping someone may have seen her walking along the road before the accident.
The dead woman is described as 5ft 3ins tall, with blonde hair and was wearing a black leather jacket with a fur collar, jeans and black boots at the time.
Inspector David Milne said: “We are appealing to drivers who may have been on the A90 between 6.30pm and 7.40pm on Tuesday. It was a particularly cold stormy night, so people may have thought it was unusual for a woman to be out walking this stretch of road at that time.
“We are currently working to establish exactly what happened, and would appeal for anyone with any information to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
