Former Labour MP backs SNP Falkirk East candidate in upcoming Scottish Parliament election
SNP candidate Michelle Thomson has been endorsed by Dennis Canavan, Falkirk district’s best-known former politician, to become the next MSP for Falkirk East.
Canavan was Labour MP for West Stirlingshire/Falkirk West from 1974-2000, before serving as independent MSP for Falkirk West from 1999-2007. He also chaired the Advisory Board for Yes Scotland during the 2014 independence referendum campaign.
Businesswoman, consultant and former MP, Michelle Thomson, is well-known for promoting independence throughout the referendum campaign.
Speaking about Mr Canavan’s endorsement, she said: “I am delighted to receive this endorsement from Dennis Canavan. He is viewed with huge affection and respect across all of Falkirk District and retains his belief that only an independent Scotland will be able to meet the needs and aspirations of the Scots.
“It is a privilege to have someone of Dennis’ standing in the community be my guest at my Facebook live event . I hope as many SNP and Yes supporters as possible will tune in to hear our talk. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and we can all learn from his political journey.”
Mr Canavan said: “I worked with Michelle when I chaired the YesScotland Campaign in the lead-up to the 2014 Referendum. The Scottish Parliament needs more people of Michele’s calibre and the people of Falkirk East will benefit from having a representative who will work hard to represent their interests.”
