Linlithgow and Falkirk East MP calls for devolution of boradcasting powers
Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Martyn Day has called for broadcasting powers to be devolved to Holyrood.
Mr Day (SNP), criticised the lack of BBC spending in Scotland.
He said: “A 2018 report found Scottish fee payers subsidise broadcasting in the rest of the UK by £100 million a year, and in recent years as little as 55 per cent of Scottish licence fees have been spent on Scottish broadcasting, compared to over 90 per cent in Wales.
“While Ministers toy with taking greater personal control of the BBC, true democratic reform remains out of reach.
"So, rather than stifling journalistic freedom, the Tory Government must commit to the devolution of broadcasting powers. However, it’s becoming clearer by the day that we will need independence to obtain such basic powers.”
