THE Olympics came to Queensferry last week when pupils across the town took part in their own version of the Games.
A group of pupils from each of the five schools, Queensferry, Echline, St Margaret’s, Dalmeny and Kirkliston, carried their torches, escorted by police on bicycles, to the playing fields, where fellow pupils and parents awaited their arrival. The fantastic weather witnessed last week ensured a carnival atmosphere and a great day of sport.
A relay for boys and girls was staged with Queensferry Pri-mary running out the winners.
Barry McGuigan, Queensferry’s active school’s co-ordinator, said: “In the run up to event, we called upon the schools to set up running clubs to get the children into the Olympic mode.
‘‘On the day itself, the torch bearing groups were cheered on by pupils and parents who lined the streets outside their schools. After the torch ceremony, we had a competitive element with relay races being staged.“
Barry thanked the police for their support and to Frankie and Benny’s for supplying pizzas for the pupils.
