A teenage mum from Queensferry has received a super Christmas present after making it through to the final stages of an on-line beauty pageant.
The news that Amber Sweetin, of Lawson Crescent, had reached the semi-finals of the Miss Teen Great Britain has marked a turnaround in Amber’s fortunes after a recent run of bad luck.
Seventeen-year-old Amber has struggled for years with ill-health, she told the Journal and Gazette.
And she recently split up with her partner when their son Harley was just six months old.
Amber said: “I have the chronic fatigue condition ME and I get very tired.
‘‘I also split with Harley’s dad last month so the news that I have got through to the semi-finals of a beauty contest was a real lift.”
She added: “I think it’s important that these contests exist.
‘‘I know some people object to beauty pageants but I believe it’s a real boost to your confidence.
‘‘There were hundreds of entrants so it’s a big achievement for me.
‘‘If I get to the final, I’ll be taking part in a real catwalk pageant in Blackpool.”
If successful, the Miss Teen Great Britain winner will be crowned and will wear her sash in the classic beauty pageant style.
As well as the title, the winner will receive a top prize of £1000 plus a £500 shopping voucher, an introduction to a model agency, crystal-encrusted shoes and accessories, a city break for two in a posh hotel and a goodie bag packed with cosmetics and beauty products.
