Work on the new bridge over the Forth has been going on in many guises for several years now.
Plans have been drawn up, finance agreed, approach roads built and foundations laid – some of these have taken place behind closed doors, others have been more public indications that the massive project is progressing. But very soon we will witness one of the most iconic moments in the construction, when the bridge’s three pillars begin emerging from the Forth. Some of us will have ancestors who worked on the railway bridge or recall when the Queen opened the current road crossing but, even if we’ve only seen pictures of the construction, we all know how awe-inspiring it looked.
Today we take them for granted but they are amazing structures in their own way and the new addition will be no different.
