The Rotary Club of Linlithgow and Bo’ness are helping to build a classroom for a Malawi school after raising £1000 at a club dinner event.
The event was not originally intended to be a fundraiser, but after a raffle and profit made from the tickets, it was decided the money would go to Sally Barker, a teacher at Dalry Primary School, who would pass it on to the school in Kakoma, Malawi.
Member Ricky Kerr said: “It was great to give the money to a worthy cause. This event was never going to be a fund raiser, but we know Sally well, as her father is a member, and the school where she works in twinned with the school in Malawi so we were more than happy to help.”
The money raised will now go towards building a classroom for the school, built by the people of Kakoma.
“This is the second time that we have given Sally and the project money,” Ricky added. “We are very pleased that we ended up making as much money from the night as we did and it’s good to be able to give to a direct project, where you know what is going to happen with the money.”
