HOPES are high that the sun will shine on Torphichen for the biggest day of the year tomorrow (Saturday).

With a civic week jam packed with entertainment and fun, the Gala Day crowns the village’s celebrations perfectly.

Queen elect Monica Anderson (11) has been building up to this weekend since February.

She said: “I’m excited. Everything’s organised - I’ve got my dress but I won’t tell you what it looks like because it’s a surprise. I’ve been involved in the civic week and I’m doing rehearsals. It’s good fun doing it with friends. You do a whole gala day run through which takes about 20-30 minutes.”

Monica’s home on Cathlaw Lane in the village will also be transformed into a castle fit for a Queen with help from dad Tom, mum Katie and sister Tess (8) who will be Fairy Queen on the day.

Monica added: “I’ll enjoy it. I do feel really lucky and everybody’s excited. I’m the only girl that could have been picked but it’s still special.”

Crowning Monica on Saturday will be a former Queen from 1972, Mrs Fiona Elder.
