Say farewell to Stirling Royal Infirmary neonatal unit

THE NEONATAL unit at Stirling Royal Infirmary is holding a farewell celebration before it relocates to Forth Valley Royal Hospital on July 12.

An invite’s being extended to parents of children cared for in the unit, and also those who were themselves one of the special care babies.

NHS Forth Valley Senior Charge Nurse Lynette MacKenzie said: “We want to recognise all the good work that has been done in this unit over the years and also to reflect losses which sadly have occurred.

“Many parents hold this unit in great affection and it’s important for them to have the opportunity to say their goodbyes. It’s amazing – some of the babies are now big strapping lads!”

The event takes place next Saturday, June 4 from 2-4pm. An open reception will be held in the paediatric ambulatory care unit next to neonatal with teas, coffees and chat.

Families will be allowed to visit the neonatal unit for a last glimpse, should they wish, and will also be invited to write a message or leave a photograph. A commemorative book will be kept at the new hospital in Larbert.
