Around 200 primary five children from four schools in Queensferry took part in a festival of golf as part of the 2014 Ryder Cup legacy.
Hosted by the award- winning Dundas Parks Golf Club in conjunction with ClubGolf Scotland and Queensferry Active Schools, the event was a great success.
In the four weeks leading up to the event, Dundas Park Golf Club coaches and volunteers helped deliver coaching to pupils at their schools.
The golf club also received funding for the extra equipment needed from Edinburgh Airport and ClubGolf Scotland.
The pupils competed against each other in putting, chipping and full swing competitions.
Echline and Kirkliston primaries represented Europe whilst Queensferry and St Margaret’s represented USA. The two hour programme resulted in a victory for Team Europe by the narrowest of margins.
The winning class, which received the Festival Trophy, was Queensferry Primary 5B and they will compete in the area final at the Hermitage Golf Club in May.
Heather Darling from Active Schools said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Dundas coaching team over the last few months to provide ClubGolf delivery in the High School and primary schools culminating in a wonderful festival.
‘‘I recognise all they do at the club for potential junior golfers by introducing golf at our schools. This has yielded long-term benefits with the High School team winning the Edinburgh High School league in 2014.”
Jim Cowper, ClubGolf co-ordinator for Dundas Parks said: “We have been doing this for six years and it has proved extremely successful as a recruiting ground for the club.
‘‘The kids coming to classes have great fun, participate in special competitions, and have the opportunity to attend our Clubgolf Camp in 2014.’’
