police reported this week that the Shop Safe Radio system introduced in Linlithgow last year has had very low usage.

But crime has not gone up in the Linlithgow area since the system started so it has been a success as a preventative measure, community police said this week. However, they stressed that users of the town scheme had not yet been consulted and questionnaires are being circulated to fully evaluate it.

Seven local shops and five pubs are signed up to the Shop Safe Radio system where businesses have walkie talkies to inform each other of incidents such as shoplifting or fraud, funded by the council.
