Singers bids for stardom

A SONGSTRESS from Queensferry is hoping to hit the big time with her band when they perform at the Corn Exchange next week in the Live and Unsigned regional finals.

Sarah Yeoman (21) is the singer with Rosyth based band Phoenix Lane and next Saturday, March 19, they will perform two songs as they bid to win a place in the Live and Unsigned Festival to be held at the o2 Arena in London later this year.

If they win the outright contest, they will receive a recording and management contract with Future Music; support a major headline act, win an all expenses paid trip to Italy and perform at Europe’s leading music festival courtesy of Tour Music Fest. The winning band could also receive an all-expenses paid trip to India, where they will play in a global face off and have the chance to win from $50,000 in prizes.

Sarah, of Wellhead Close, and her bandmates Colin Watson (guitar), Christine Munday (bass guitar) and Reg McLennan (drums) have been together over the past year and on the night they will perform one of their own songs entitled “Okay To Fall” and a cover of the Bruno Mars hit “Grenade”.

A former Queensferry High School pupil, Sarah now combines her singing in pubs and clubs with part-time office work at an architect’s business in Queensferry.

She said this week: “We first auditioned for the competition in January along with around 60 other bands. We had just two minutes to prove ourselves but we were invited back for the local finals next week. We are really looking forward to taking part and while it would be great to qualify it is jusst about taking part and sharing the experience of performing to a large crowd.”

She added: “We have just released an EP on with the title track “Unfading Rules” and have various footage of the band performing on Youtube.”

Phoenix Lane write their own material and have played a variety of gigs in and around the Queensferry/Kirkliston area as well in Fife. They hope entry in next week’s competition could lead to stardom!!
