Sir, - On Sunday, November 10, we will gather at the War Memorial to pay homage to family and friends who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Letters to the editor

After the service at the Old Kirk, which I hope many of you will attend, we will march to the memorial. The public attending the service has increased these last two years, I hope this trend will continue.

At past Armistice services I have noted that many of the people attending lay flowers or wreaths during the service. I would like to see this opportunity being given to the public attending the Remembrance Service. We will allocate time to pay your own personal homage. This year, also the six local schools will be attending the service. The schools have chosen pupils to lay flowers during the service. All youth organisations and schools will be in attendance and will be called upon to pay their homage. This year’s service will be special as in six months from now it will be the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr John MacIntosh and the Legion committee for their assistance in making this service possible. – Yours etc.,

Sir, – May I clarify the position of the Kirk Session of St Michael’s Parish Church with regard to the Victoria Halls proposal?

At its October meeting the session heard a plea from one of its senior elders for the church to support the development as a demonstration of the church’s involvement in the community.

There was no contrary opinion expressed but the session itself did not adopt a formal position either for or against. – Yours etc.,

Sir, - Another motorist and I were involved in an incident with a large boulder on the A704 on Wednesday, October 9. We would like to thank the good Samaritan who stopped to help us until the police arrived.

I would also like to thank the two gentlemen from Lochview Garage who removed the boulder from under my car. Furthermore, I would like to thank PC Stott and her partner who did a great job in keeping other motorists safe and keeping me company during the three hours it took to get my car moved. – Yours etc.,
