Muirhouse Dykes Steading may be an old house but it has been converted to offer a very modern property with a garden bigger than a football pitch to keep young and old alike entertained.

The thing is that there is plenty of room in this house to have all of your extended family living under one roof as there are six bedrooms and three reception rooms.

The kitchen is an open plan space with a dining and sitting area, but the double height ceiling here is key as it is particularly light and bright.

While there is a log burning stove in the living area for cosy winter nights there are also French doors to the garden making it a great summertime entertaining space too.

Tracy McCormick the present owner has lived in the house with her family since 1998. She told the Gazette: “It is very quiet to live here and it suited perfectly as we wanted to use part of the house for business purposes.

Upstairs has proved ideal for me in my line of work. There is a lounge upstairs for anyone accompanying my clients to wait for them.

“We own the courtyard as well so we have plenty of space for parking.

We would be staying put except that we are now going to live overseas where I will be nearer to my sister. Aside from that the house is just a bit big for us now and some of the rooms are unused.

“Having said that, space is the best thing about this house. Our two children are now grown up but when they had friends round we all had plenty of room to spread out!

“There is a lot of lawn in the garden. Our plan was to have a water feature and we also tracked down some trees that grow in a five year cycle which we planted and they now provide us with a fuel supply for our log burner.

Husband Steve grew all the plants from seed in the greenhouse and potting shed in the garden where he also put up an outbuilding for the ride on lawnmower needed to keep the garden in check.

Although the house was already converted when they bought it the McCormicks have done lots to it over the years and there are many new features including bathrooms and floors.
