PLANS to extend the Tesco supermarket in Linlithgow have been lodged but they are not as extensive as originally believed.

The Learmonth Property Investment Company has applied to West Lothian Council for planning permission in principle to extend the shop at the front and rear, put up a single storey decked car park and re-align the existing car park and service access at the Regent Centre on Blackness Road.

The new build extension will add an extra 12,000 square feet. Parking spaces would go up by 76 for shoppers on the new ground level and 99 on the first level of the new-look car park, bringing the total to 309.

The plans have been were welcomed by Nicholas Leonard of the Linlithgow Against Supermarket Development, who reiterated his comments saying the campaigners would welcome a development at the Regent Centre which strengthened the retail offering in the town centre and provided additional parking. The reduced plans are now no longer classed as a major development.

Cooper Cromar, agents for the Learmonth Property Investment Company, declined to comment any further on the details.
