THE clock winds back to World War I this week for our historical picture, which shows a group of Royal Scots soldiers in France.

Down memory lane

George Bell, dad of John Bell MBE from Bo’ness, is pictured in the back row, second from the left.

He was born in 1896, so can’t have been any older than his early twenties when the photo was taken. John thinks the setting was somewhere in northern France.

John himself followed in his dad’s footsteps by joining the Army. The former military policeman was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list last year for services to the Royal British Legion West Lothian.
