FUTURE novelllists and poet laureates put pen to paper for the annual West Lothian Young Wrter’s competition.
With prizes handed out in every age group, there was a huge turn out at the Howden Park Centre on Thursday night for the presentation of prizes.
Dozens of youngsters received books - and praise - from the organisers and sponsors for their varied and creative work.
The special prizes this year went to Callum Stewart, of Croftmalloch Primary; Hope Guthrie, Springfield Primary, who won the Journal and Gazette prize; Regan Denholme, St John the Baptist Primary; and the Young Writer of the Year 2011 was Kirsty McKinney, Simpson Primary.
Leader of the council Peter Johnston said: ‘‘ I would liek to congratulate all the children who have entered the ocmpetition and most especially the prizeiwinners. They have written imaginate, amusing and exciting stories and should be proud of what they have achieved. We are gratefiul to the teachers and parents of these emerging young writers for their encouragement and support.
