Tom's philanthropy helps raise Â£72k in 22 years for good causes

Tom Horn (60) organises two charity days every year, but in 2016 he extended that to three adding a ‘pink day’ to his usual pair of bowling days at Bonnybridge Bowling Club.

Charities benefitting from Tom’s philanthropy have varied over the years from Marie Curie to organisations supporting people with debilitating conditions.

This year, Tom and his band of helpers raised a massive £2000 for The Driving Force and Strathcarron Hospice.

Tom paid tribute to everyone else who played their part in the fundraising drive.

He said: “I’d like to say a big thanks to Colin Peat and Ross Craig from Central Demolition and Robert Heeps of the Canal Inn for sponsoring the bowling days.

“I’d also like to extend my thanks to the bowling club for the use of the facilities and Laura Duncan who gives up her time year in and year out and is fantastic at selling raffle tickets. Not forgetting the Grogan sisters, Tony the DJ and all of the people who donated to the raffle and continue to attend these events each year.”

Claire Macdonald, Strathcarron’s business development fundraiser, said: “With over £11,000 to raise every single day just to keep our services running, we rely on the support of our local community and we’re overwhelmed by Tom’s efforts.

“Thank you to Tom and everyone else involved in raising such a fantastic amount.”

The Driving Force offers people with cancer who registered at either Bonnybridge, Banknock, Denny Cross, or Carronbank health centres free transport to and from hospital appointments and treatment sessions.

Strathcarron Hospice has 14 charity stores across the Forth Valley where people can donate goods for re-sale in the shops.

The shops provide £500,000 towards the annual cost of running the range of services it provides for people with terminal illnesses completely free of charge.
