the 2011 West Lothian Toy Appeal has been a huge success thanks to generous local residents.

Over 550 families have already benefitted and over 12,000 toys were delivered on Christmas Day, making it one of the busiest in the appeal’s 27-year history. The West Lothian Toy Appeal asks people to donate toys to help disadvantaged families in the region each year.

This year West Lothian Leisure teamed up with the charity organisers River Kids so people could take toys to any of West Lothian Leisure’s facilities.

The partnership proved very successful and organisers have thanked West Lothian Leisure for its support. Contestants from the Miss West Lothian event also helped out including new Miss West Lothian Lauren McLeod from Breich.

Wendy Simpson of River Kids said: “Having Santa ~deliver toys at Christmas may not make up for the dismal reality of living in refuge accommodation or separated from friends and family members but it brings a little brightness into the lives of innocent children.

‘‘West Lothian Leisure coming on board was a great help and resulted in a big increase in the number of toys.’’
