St Ninian’s Way car park in Linlithgow could have 27 new car parking spaces eight years after the idea was first proposed.

Plans have been lodged by West Lothian Council for the extension that would bring the total number of spaces to 77 at the lochside car park.

It is the first parking development for the town since a 77-space car park was created near the cricket club at Boghall in 2011.

Councillor Tom Conn is delighted the St Ninian’s plans are finally being progressed.

He said: “This has been a long time coming. In 2005, the community council did a parking study of the town and they identified the sports centre area and St Ninian’s Way as sites for more car parking spaces.

“At the time, council officers said that parking charges were the only way to manage the costs of this but the community council identified these two locations that were already in council ownership so there was no need for this.”

He added that the council have put in a filter system to deal with flooding overspill into the loch from the car park area, as part of its contribution to improve the water
quality and reduce pollution at the beauty spot.
