Warm welcome for first liner passengers of the season

A NEW welcome team of volunteers greeted the first cruise ship of the 2013 season at Queensferry’s Hawes Pier on Wednesday.

The MSC Magnifica arrived from Hamburg on the first stop of her cruise carrying around 2000 passengers.

There to meet them on the pier were members of the Forth Bridges Tourist Group, a volunteer team covering Queensferry and Rosyth.

Visitors who had not booked an organised excursion were provided with information on activities in and around Queensferry, including the opportunity of a guided walk of the town, places where wi-fi might be accessed and money exchanged.

Diane Brown of Queensferry Ambition said: “While we had a trial run at the end of last season, we are now working with the City of Edinburgh Council and local businesses to ensure that the passengers make the most of their time in and around Queensferry.

‘‘The uniformed volunteer team will make a huge difference to the welcome we can offer and the recently launched CruiseForth.com website will hopefully give our visitors a much better idea of all that is on offer in the area.”

Passengers from up to 21 cruise ships will disembark at Queensferry this summer, with another 27 at Rosyth.
