A woman has hit out at cold callers after two men knocked on her door claiming to work on behalf of West Lothian Council.
The Linlithgow homeowner said: “I noticed two men in hi-viz jackets carrying clip boards, looking and pointing at various houses.
“One then knocked on my door and immediately tried to convince me he was legitimate.”
The man pleaded he had nothing to sell and had noticed the woman’s ‘no cold callers’ sign, but he chose to ignore it.
The victim said: “He was wearing an ID badge with Helms printed on it and said he was working on behalf of West Lothian Council. He was trying to tell me about the benefits of solar panels.”
Realising he wasn’t getting anywhere, the man left.
A council spokesman said: “This company is not working on behalf of the council.
“We encourage anyone who is approached by Helms Solar Panels to report the matter to the Trading Standards team on 01506 280000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
More information about the council’s trusted traders can be found at www.westlothian.gov.uk/trustedtrader.
Helms say they are investigating the incident.
