Staff from a law firm will be taking on a gruelling challenge to raise funds for a charity close to all their hearts.
William MacRae and the team at Liddle & Anderson Solicitors will be attempting to walk 500 miles this month to raise funds for Strathcarron Hospice.
The Bo’ness firm is also partnering the charity with its Make a Will month where the legal team will waive its will writing-fee in exchange for a donation to the hospice.
In the summer William was stunned when he discovered he needed a triple heart bypass after a routine check up at the doctors and that was the catalyst for Fiona MacDonald, Joyce Hobbs and Marysia Waddell to join him in the challenge.
He said: “It gave us a bit of a shock. It was just a bit of bad luck. I don’t drink lot or eat too much I’m not really sure what caused it. It puts life in perspective and we decided on the back of that to do the fundraising.
“We’re trying to fit in walks during the day at lunchtime and during the evening. There is a core team of four of us but there will be others who will help and chip in when they can.
“I can’t push myself too hard but I did six miles on the opening day and despite it being wet I felt ok. It was quite a brisk walk – after the operation I had to be careful so walking was the only thing I could do really.
“We walk around Bo’ness and the Foreshore and around the Bathgate Hills where I stay. It’s good to get out in the fresh air and there is some lovely scenery. I hope it will encourage staff to be more healthier too.”
