More relaxed lockdown measures have now come into force in Scotland, following the Scottish government’s latest review.

Several rules have been relaxed across the country from 29 May, including the rules around meeting up with family and friends.

After almost 10 weeks of lockdown, family and friends in Scotland will be able to meet up outdoors, providing social distancing is maintained.

From Friday (29 May) one household is now permitted to meet with one other household at a time outdoors, such as in a park or private garden.

There should be no more than eight people in a group at a time, and people should limit meetings to just one other household in a given day.

While people from different households are still not allowed to meet indoors, it is acceptable to walk through a house to gain access to a garden.

Scots are also now allowed to travel to different areas for recreation, although the First Minister asked people to travel on foot or bicycle as much as possible, and avoid public transport.

However, people are strongly advised not to travel further than five miles from their home.

This is to help avoid large numbers of people gathering at tourist hotspots, or local beauty spots.

Nicola Sturgeon also gave the green light for more outdoor recreation, with people able to sunbathe and sit in parks and open areas from 29 May, but if crowds of people are in the area, Scots are encouraged to go elsewhere.

Barbecues are also now permitted, but if it is between two households, each should bring their own food, cutlery and crockery.

Some outdoor leisure activities, where physical distancing can be maintained, can now resume, with activities including golf, tennis, bowls and fishing.

Other sports which are allowed include:

- archery

- athletics - running/jogging

- croquet

- cycling

- horse-riding

- lawn bowls

- walking

- water sports

One-on-one personal training and coaching is also allowed, providing it is outside and people can keep two metres apart.

What other rules have been changed?

As well as relaxing the rules about meeting with family and friends, and outdoor recreation, a number of other changes were also announced following the review.

Outdoor work and construction will be allowed to resume, and garden and recycling centres can reopen for business from Monday 1 June.

Drive thru food outlets will be also permitted to gradually reopen to customers.

Teachers will be able to enter schools from 1 June, and from Wednesday 3 June, childcare will be available to a wider group of people.

However, schools in Scotland will reopen later on 11 August, but children will return to a "blended model" where they will do a mix of school and home learning.

Ms Sturgeon admitted to being ‘nervous’ about announcing the changes, and asked the public to use their judgement to avoid another spike.

She also said that she will cancel lockdown easing if people aren’t following the guidelines, although she added that she has “enormous trust and faith in the Scottish people.”
