There could be a new challenger for the Christmas No. 1 spot – Queen. That not Queen the group but... Her Majesty.

But it’s not a case of Buckingham turning into Rockingham, it is a special tribute song from the Four Sopranos.

And the voice of Her Majesty, taken from her Christmas message in 1957, features on the track.

It has been recorded as a tribute to the Queen who, earlier this year, became the longest reigning monarch in British history and the longest reigning female monarch in the world.

Entitled ‘Her Majesty The Queen (A Tribute)’, 50 per cent of revenues from the sale will be donated to Haig Housing Trust’s Coming Home fundraising campaign, a charity of which HM The Queen is the Patron and which provides specially-adapted housing for severely wounded and traumatically disabled Service men and women.

The track was recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios and bookmaker William Hill has slashed the odds of it grabbing the No.1 slot from 100/1 into 20/1, following a flurry of bets on the announcement of the single.

“When the first call came in we thought it was a prank,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams. “But we have since heard the song and it has to be a contender.”

The Four Sopranos are Eleanor Sanderson-Nash, Helena Raeburn, Chloe Morgan and Lucy Prendergast, and the single will be launched at the Tower of London on December 11 and can can be downloaded from iTunes and Amazon.

Adrian Munsey, who wrote the song, said: “This is a simple musical tribute to HM The Queen, emphasising the affection the nation has for the Queen and her importance in providing dignity and continuity to the nation through the many changes experienced during her long reign.”

Concept creator Jeff Chegwin added: “My strategy behind this record was to create with composer Adrian a genuine thank you piece for a unique, special woman who we all hold dear in our hearts and for it to represent and resonate lyrically the voice of the man and woman on the street from the taxi driver, teacher, greengrocer to the doctor, soldier, labourer and the nurse and school-run mum, teacher and grandmother, all of whom the Queen has inspired through decades of selfless devotion.”
