DIFFERENT sports are being introduced to local primary children in a bid to get them excited about exercise.
A Benchball Festival for P3 pupils was held last week at Linlithgow Primary School and teams from St Joseph’s, Low Port, Springfield, and Linlithgow Primary fought it out for medals. The event started with an aerobic warmup, followed by games where every child was playing for the first time in a competitive game situation, representing their school.
PE specialist Lesley Malone said: “The children were very excited and loved playing, watching their classmates and socialising with children from other schools in the cluster. With a strong emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play in every school, who each provided four teams, medals were awarded from first to fourth place.”
For the first time, games were officiated by Linlithgow P7 pupils who did an excellent job of umpiring and scorekeeping. Pupils from Linlithgow Bridge, Bridgend and Winchburgh will compete for Benchball glory in a few weeks time at Winchburgh Primary.
