Celebrating all that’s best in West Lothian sport

A SPECIAL event aims to recognise those who have achieved sporting success in West Lothian during the last year.

West Lothian Council and West Lothian Sports Council are inviting local residents to nominate individuals and organisations to be honoured at the annual Celebrating Sport awards.

The event takes place at Armadale Academy on Friday, May 31, 2012, to pay tribute to the athletes and volunteers who have excelled in their chosen field.

This could include coaches, competitors, administrators, helpers, teachers, clubs, schools, uniformed groups, teams and sponsors, as the awards aims to celebrate the sporting success of a diverse range of individuals and organisations.

Nomination forms are available to download from www.westlothian.gov.uk/celebratingsport or can be collected from the Low Port Centre in Linlithgow. Completed forms can be emailed to sportandrecreation@westlothian.gov.uk or sent/handed into Sport and Outdoor Education, Low Port Centre, 1 Blackness Road, Linlithgow, EH49 7HZ by Friday, May 4.

A West Lothian Council spokesman said: “We would encourage the public to nominate any individuals or groups who have made a significant contribution to sport in the last year.

“Nominations are being sought in six categories: Young Sports Person (Under 18 years old); Senior Sports Person (18 years old and over); Coach of the Year; Contribution to School Sport; and Local Service to Sport.

“The panel will draw up a short list of three in each category, with the winners in each category invited to attend the awards where the winners will be announced. The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 4.
