Colin’s progress halted

LINLITHGOW’S Colin Fleming sprinted through to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles this week before his US Open dream ended.

Colin was matched with partner Sania Mirza and the pairing had a successful run through the championship, which included defeating the defending champions Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock in the second round 6-4, 7-6(7).

But the quarter-finals on Monday ended the streak when the duo went down 6-3, 7-5 to Peschke (Cze) and Matkowski (Pol).

Last Sunday, Colin and his men’s doubles partner Ross Hutchins were seeded 14th but it was not enough to stop defeat at the hands of home-grown brothers Christian and Ryan Harrison (US), losing 6-3, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows in round three.
