Fertile ground for top seed

Queensferry’s Matthew Carder won a hat-trick of titles when he competed at at Scottish under 21 Championships at Meadowbank, Edinburgh.

Carder lived up to his top seeding to take the singles title 21-18 21-10 against Ben Torrance.

He claimed his second title when he and Adam Hall, the second seeds, lifted the men’s doubles title when they beat top seeds Torrance and Josh Neil 21-19 21-16.

And he won his third title, when he contested the mixed final with Caitlin Pringle to beat Adam Hall and Heather MacPherson 21-14 21-17.

Badminton Scotland’s chief executive Anne Smillie said: “There was a terrific selection of young Scottish talent on display over the weekend and it shows how healthy our sport is. I congratulate all today’s champions and look forward to seeing the younger players in particular blossom on the tournament circuit in the months to come.”
