Any reservations about the wisdom of the decision to change the management of Bo’ness United must have evaporated in the avalanche of goals at St Andrews.

Certainly the final 15 minutes saw four goals scored against 10 men but it is not so long ago that Bo’ness struggled to beat Camelon Juniors after they had a player sent off.

The players went about their task with purpose and there was a spirit in the team that had been missing for a while.

That it is not to say that the performance was perfect, given that Bo’ness gave away an avoidable penalty which allowed St Andrews back into the game.

The BUs kept going forward to regain the initiative and were quite ruthless in their punishment of the depleted home side.

There was a new face in the Bo’ness ranks when centre half David White lined up.

There was also a trialist on the bench to supplement the limited BU squad.

Stuart Hunter and Jamie Hay were both injured while Will Snowdon was unavailable.

Despite a difficult pitch, Bo’ness were the better side from the off although the defence were also required to do its bit.

The BUs created a good chance in 15 minutes when McAvoy sent over a low cross but Hislop mishit in front of goal.

Ten minutes later Bo’ness took the lead. Walker gathered a long ball to dash forward and proved strong enough to resist McMullen’s challenge before angling a shot low past St Andrews keeper Clark.

Shortly before the break, Bo’ness keeper Wallace made a great reaction save to defy Sutherland and right away turned a Suttie shot round his post.

Two minutes into the second half Bo’ness doubled their lead when Hamilton gathered a Donnelly through ball and fired in from 12 yards.

Bo’ness seemed comfortable but they let their opponents off the hook.

In 51 minutes Kennedy made a clumsy challenge on Cumming in the box and McInnes scored from the spot.

St Andrews had their tails up and pushed forward on the Bo’ness goal.

In saying that, only a fantastic save by Clark stooped a Donnelly header restoring Bo’ness’s two goal lead.

In 72 minutes Suttie should have equalised for the home side but somehow he managed to scoop over from a few yards out.

Four minutes later the game changed when St Andrews were reduce to 10 men when Buchan had a swing at McAvoy and was shown a straight red card.

Bo’ness stayed with their positive formation and swept forward on the St Andrews goal.

In 76 minutes Walker got his second goal as he pounced on Hislop’s knock-on to round Clark.

Three minutes later the St Andrews keeper was booked for barging Hislop and then had to pick the resulting penalty from the same player out of the net.

Hislop got his brace in 83 minutes from close in after a great pass from Bonar and another four minutes saw Donnelly meet Hislop’s low ball to shoot in from six yards.
