Bo'ness United gaffer Max Christie praises injury hit squad after perfect start

Last Saturday’s emphatic 4-0 romp at Edinburgh University made it three league wins out of three for Christie’s men this season and they are second in the table with nine points.The first goal on the stroke of half-time was headed in off the underside of the bar – following Ryan Stevenson’s lovely free-kick – by Meikle, who was playing as a trialist but who has now signed for the BUs until the end of the season. Further goals arrived for Zander Miller (2) and Chris Donnelly.Christie said: “Craig’s done great, he’s 40 and he was manager of Whitehill last year. He’s a very good player who played for me at Tranent before."He’s played two games for Bo’ness and been very solid and outstanding.”He’s a real credit to himself. There’s not a pick on him, he is a fitness fanatic who trains hard and does great.”He’s one for the future. We are just building the youth policy a wee bit!”Although Bo’ness won by four goals, they were pressed back in the first half before scoring.”The result flattered us to a point,” Christie said. “First half they were the better side and we hadn’t played well.”We were looking a wee bit jaded and a wee bit lacking energy but we scored and then we relaxed a bit and played again.”We ran out worthy winners and could have scored more.”Bo’ness’s injury woes at the start of this season – they had no fit substitutes for their league opener against Cumbernauld Colts but won 2-1 – remain although they are starting to ease a bit.”It’s been a difficult time but we have come through it well and the guys are coming back now,” Christie said. ”We had three subs against Edinburgh.”I mustn’t grumble that we have nine points but we are not kidding ourselves.”It’s been battling performances but we have been very, very clinical and scored some great goals.”We have been defending well and attacking well. We just need to do the bit in between a bit better, pass it better and complete more passes.Bo’ness continue their Lowland League campaign at home to Caledonian Braves this Saturday, kick-off 3pm, before hosting Civil Service Strollers in the league next Wednesday, October 28, kick-off 7.45pm.
