Bo'ness United skipper Chris Donnelly quits club after 12 years

In a major piece of breaking news at Bo’ness United, 34-year-old captain Chris Donnelly – nicknamed ‘Dougie’ – is leaving after 12 years.

"Chris has been a massive servant to the club, one of the all-time best players here,” BU manager Max Christie told the Journal and Gazette he had chatted long and hard to Donnelly about what he wanted to do.

"He is one of the boys who has done fantastically well for me since I went to the club.

"He’ll be a big loss. We wanted to keep him but we couldn’t guarantee him the game time he was after at his age. He is speaking to a few clubs and has not decided yet who he’s joining.

"Chris has been a fans’ favourite for a long time and club captain since I came. He has been a real influence and presence about the place.

"But he wants to know that he’s coming on a Saturday and he’s playing. And I couldn’t guarantee him that.

"Dougie is at an age where he can’t be sitting on anyone’s bench, he’s got to be playing.”
